Yummy silverbeet quiches and more.....Kinder Haven Northland is working in conjuntion with the Preston market (Sam & Sons) Each week the centre is supplied with fresh produce from the market and families have the opportunity to taste, try and take home some of the goods. This initiative aims to increase children's awareness and interest in fresh fruit and vegetables and encourages them to ask questions and sample a variety of items.
Within the centre itself, educators and children worked together to make silverbeet quiches, made with fresh produce grown in the Community Garden. Peas from the garden were sampled by the children also and fresh dips were made.
The centre has just harvested our garden, changing the soil with the help from the Plant Whiz (Preston Market) who are donating all of the vegetables, plants and soil to keep this wonderful project going. An outdoor weather station has also been added to the outdoor area, where the children can look at the direction of the wind (N,S,E,W) the temperature and measure the rain fall.
A focus for the rooms for this month is composting.
